The Ohio Bobcat, native to Ohio is one of seven wild cat species.  Being exterminated from the state in 1850, it was repopulated in the mid-1900s.  Sighted more often every year it’s returning “home” to Ohio.

The Ohio University Bobcats- in 1896, Hal Rowland, a former student, won the $10.00 contest to put forward the idea of a nickname that exemplified the team’s tenacity and fighting spirit best- and the O.U. Bobcats were born.
